To date public speaking has received the most votes in our VPS poll that asks “When is a Great Voice important for you.” As it is said, for many people, the fear of public speaking is greater than the fear of dying. I have always thought this is a huge exaggeration.

Susan Jeffers, author of “Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway” states that if, what you fear most happens, the bigger fear will be that you won’t be able to handle it. The solution to not being able to handle it is to continually tell yourself that you can handle it. It is not how well you handle it, just that you will handle it. And the more you handle it, the more the fear dissipates.

Control over your voice is an important skill that helps you to handle it. People, who have control over their voice, have control over their profession. When you have the ability to speak well, it gives you the confidence to deliver an articulate and persuasive speech that moves your audience to action.

You start by placing your attention on how you are saying something, and not on what you are saying.

  1. Are you speaking clearly by saying the ends of your words and putting the stress on the correct syllable of each word?
  2. Are you speaking at an easily understood rate of speech?
  3. Are you speaking with pacing and phrasing?
  4. Are you trailing off at the end of your sentences?

As you perfect your speaking skills through VPS exercises and reading out loud from your favorite novel you begin to love the power of words and your ability to expressive your self with confidence and power. You love yourself!
